Holy Week Services 2017 Starting Palm Sunday April 9th

Holy Week Services

Palm Sunday, April 9:  At both the 8 and 10 am services, there will be a dramatic reading of the passion instead of the sermon.  This is a very powerful and moving service to set the tone for Holy Week.

Monday, April 10:  From 7 – 9 pm, there will be a candle lit labyrinth in sanctuary.  A labyrinth is ancient spiritual tool enabling you to slowly and meditatively walk on a winding circular path leading you inward to your spiritual self and then outward.  There is no conversation, only music playing in the background.  The labyrinth is small, so only a few people can walk on it at one time. So feel free to drop in at any point during the two hours to walk.  You can also simply sit and pray!

Maundy Thursday, April 13:  This is the day when Christians remember Jesus’ last meal with his followers before he was executed.  At St. David’s we have a shared Mediterranean type meal (pita bread, lentil soups, cheese, grapes, nuts, etc.) in the upper hall.  It is relaxed, informal, and all are welcome and can bring a friend.  The meal will begin at 6PM.  After the meal, we’ll gather in the sanctuary for a simple celebration of Holy Communion.  Again, all are welcome to attend.  After the service, the sanctuary is stripped of all its ornamentation in preparation for Good Friday.

Good Friday, April 14:  At 7:00 PM, there will be a service in which through short dramatic readings, voices are given to the things which Jesus struggled with, especially during his passion:  fear, shame, doubt, sorrow, death.  It is a powerful service.  There will be time for reflection and prayer.  Communion will be offered from the reserved sacrament.

Easter morning – 8am and 10am services as usual.  No Sunday School.  Alleluia! Christ is risen!
